Google Search Console Fails to read Sitemap.xml

Google has been doing it’s own thing and just keeps giving the “failed to fetch sitemap” no matter what I do, but I figured not to spend any more time trying to make them fetch the sitemap.xml file. Here’s some suggestions, but I tried them all and none of them helped me..

Google has experienced issues fetching sitemap.xml files from many web servers over the past few years due to several factors:

1. Server Configuration Issues: Some web servers may have incorrect configurations that block or restrict access to the sitemap.xml file. This can be due to firewall settings, IP blocking, or misconfigured permissions.
2. Robots.txt Restrictions: The robots.txt file may inadvertently block Google’s crawler from accessing the sitemap.xml file. This can happen if the disallow rules are not set correctly.
3. Network and Connectivity Problems: Occasional network issues can prevent Google’s crawlers from accessing the sitemap.xml files. This could be due to server downtime, DNS issues, or general internet connectivity problems.
4. Sitemap Size and Complexity: Extremely large or complex sitemaps can cause problems. If the sitemap is too large, it may exceed server or crawler limits, leading to timeouts or incomplete fetching.
5. Incorrect URL in Search Console: If the sitemap URL submitted in Google Search Console is incorrect or if the sitemap has moved without updating the URL in Search Console, Google will have trouble fetching it.
6. Server Overload or Rate Limiting: Some servers implement rate limiting to prevent excessive crawling, which can inadvertently block Google’s crawlers. If the server is overloaded, it may also struggle to serve the sitemap.xml file promptly.
7. HTTPS Issues: Problems with HTTPS configuration, such as expired SSL certificates or improper certificate setups, can prevent Google’s crawlers from accessing the sitemap.
8. Content Delivery Networks (CDNs): If a site uses a CDN, misconfigurations can sometimes block or restrict access to the sitemap.xml file.
9. Redirects and Errors: Improper redirects or server errors (like 404 or 500 errors) can prevent the sitemap from being fetched correctly. Multiple redirects or incorrect redirect configurations can also lead to issues.
10. Dynamic Sitemap Generation: If the sitemap is generated dynamically and there are issues with the underlying scripts or database, it can lead to problems with fetching the sitemap.
